Acivir DT is utilized for the treatment of chickenpox (varicella) or shingles (herpes zoster). It can also be effective for initial herpes simplex infections including genital herpes, prevention of herpes simplex in individuals with compromised immune systems, varicella zoster, herpes zoster (shingles), and for the suppression of recurrent herpes simplex.
Use Acivir DT as prescribed by your physician. Refer to the Acivir DT label for precise dosing guidelines. Dissolve the tablet in a teaspoon (5ml) of water prior to ingestion. It is advisable to drink additional fluids while using Acivir DT. Consult your doctor for specific instructions.
Commence Acivir DT treatment at the first indication or symptom of shingles or genital herpes (pain, burning, blisters). When addressing an acute episode, continue the full treatment course of Acivir DT even if symptoms improve within a few days. For preventive therapy, Acivir DT is most effective when taken consistently at the same times daily.
If you miss a dose of Acivir DT, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Avoid taking two doses simultaneously.
Avoid use if: you are allergic to any component of Acivir DT.
Contact your doctor or healthcare provider immediately if any of the following applies to you. Certain medical conditions may interact with Acivir DT. Inform your doctor or pharmacist about any medical conditions, particularly if any of these apply: if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding; if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medications, herbal products, or dietary supplements; if you have allergies to medications, foods, or other substances; if you have kidney issues or a weakened immune system.
All medications can produce side effects, but many individuals experience none or only mild effects. Consult your doctor if any of the common side effects persist or become troublesome: diarrhea; general body discomfort; headache; nausea/vomiting.
Seek immediate medical attention if any of these severe side effects occur: serious allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); aggressive behavior; blood in urine; confusion; decreased consciousness; reduced urination; hallucinations; lower back pain; changes in mental state or mood; red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; unusual bruising or bleeding.
